easter eggs!

I know it's a little after the fact, but I hope everyone who celebrates it had a Happy Easter!
My sister and I decided to color some eggs and I took a few snapshots during the process. This first picture was taken right after I finished blowing the eggs out of the shell via two tiny holes. I'm pretty sure I lost a few brain cells doing this!

I downloaded the egg making app from Martha Stewart and she suggested making something like this to dry the eggs once they were dyed. Those are regular pins used for sewing.

It actually did a great job holding the eggs.

The finished product! It was a lot of work but my sister and I both loved how it turned out.

a very busy week

I decided to try making my own mini macaroons out of polymer clay.
It can definitely be difficult at times, but I really enjoyed the end result!

I'm definitely going to put them in my Etsy shop, but I'm not sure if I'll turn them into keychains,
stitch markers or just charms.

I started making these for my grandmother for Easter. One more to go!

On the left is a keychain for my friend which I still have to mail out :/
And on the right is a necklace I made for the Doctor Who party I went to. More on that below.

My friend volunteered to make treats for the screening party of Doctor Who. She enlisted myself and other friends to help her with the monumental task of making close to 250 cookies and cupcakes.
On the left, were the 130 bow-ties I made out of fondant and on the right are the little fez cupcakes we put them on
(since The Doctor loves his bow-tie and fez :)

day trip to yale

Yesterday I went on a day trip to Yale University to visit their British Art Museum. The campus was absolutely gorgeous and historic (the school was founded in 1701!). The exhibit, which sadly didn't let us take pictures, showcased the works of Thomas Lawrence, a painter during the regency period (Jane Austen's time).

This painting was beautiful in person!

After the tour, I took some pictures of the buildings around the campus.

A lot of the houses were probably preserved colonial ones, so it felt like I was in the John Adams mini-series.

This one looked so ancient in design, like from Rome or Greece.

I think Yale was trying to hit every era because this door looks positively medieval.

I know I didn't include any of my crafting in this post but that's because I actually worked a few days this week substitute teaching (yay!).  Next post will definitely include some crocheted things I've been working on :)

museums and the flower district (which really isn't)

My friend Ellen and I went to the Brooklyn Museum.
It's a lot smaller than the Metropolitan Museum (my favorite)
so it's perfect if you only have a few hours to spare (we both woke up late haha).

I tried to look for a description for this piece but couldn't find one. However, it was beautiful in person!
It reminded me of Marie Antoinette's bed after an all night party. 

We went to the flower district which wasn't too far from Herald Square. Today it's only a block, but in the past it was much longer. It really looked as though a forest took over for a brief bit.

I tried out my new teacup!

I'm working on another afghan. I didn't finish the other (that one is going to take a while),
but I like to take on a few different projects at once so I don't get bored.

Originally it was supposed to be a baby blanket,
but I like the way it's coming out so much I just might keep it!

almost spring but not quite

It's definitely that time of year when you look outside your window and see it's sunny, your instinct is to dress light because it's spring. However, once you're outside, you realize it still feels like winter and that you probably should have put on that scarf after all. Such was the case yesterday but I didn't let it ruin what turned out to be a very nice day.

I went to The Homefront, a store that sells vintage items (both real and inspired).
They were having a sale and I couldn't resist buying a few things!

I love blue and white patterns.

This is such a great book! It constantly inspires me to try new things.
This time I wanted to try to crochet an afghan similar to the one shown:

Lastly, I painted these mini flowerpots. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with them yet!

what i've been up to today

Working on a new box which hopefully I'll finish soon!

My huge pile of yarn. There's so much of it but mostly from leftover projects.
I think I might have to make a quilt to use some of it up.

I love the colors in the bottom skein so much.
This photo doesn't do it justice but it looks like something out of a Monet painting.

My crochet hooks, not many but they get the job done.
There are also some buttons I'm working on in the top corner.

Hello bloggers! I'm Laura and this would be my brand new blog. I'm starting this as a way to keep track of all my crafting adventures. I'm also an unemployed would be social studies teacher. So basically, I have plenty of time on my hands to dabble to my hearts content. Well, at least until my parents kick me out. ;)
